“Absolutely not. I’m just letting you know your place is protected again just in case you do want to come back. All I ask is you would let me know something soon, if possible.”

“You know what? Break the lease. I mean, why go back to the condo when here is where I want to be?” After the words left his mouth, a sense of certainty washed over him. Yes, that was the right thing to do.

“Sounds like you’ve made your mind up.”

“I have, actually. In fact, I was thinking about this just before you called. It’s almost like a sign.”

“Hey, I’m a big believer in fate. Congratulations.”

“Thanks. Now I just need to tell Clay.” Michael laughed.

“Oh, he’ll be ecstatic. Never doubt that for a moment. Okay, on another note, I wanted to let you know that I received the Las Vegas police report on Mark, which was pretty much useless. Not surprising, since they don’t know what they’re really dealing with, so I think I’m going to call in my partner.”

“Ah, you mean Andy?”

“Wrong kind of partner.” Paul chuckled. “Sorry, I meant another person like me. His name is Jonas Parker. We’ve worked many cases together, and it just so happens he’s at loose ends right now. I’m going to ask him to fly out and touch base with the paranormal community and Guardians living in that area. It’s been a while since the incident, but who knows? We may get lucky.”

“Wow, thank you.” Michael’s excitement dimmed when he thought about exactly what Paul was saying. Going there involved time and manpower. “I never asked, but am I supposed to, I don’t know, be paying you for this?”

“No. I’m doing this on my own time for a friend.”

Michael’s eyes burned, and he blinked rapidly. “Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me.”

“I’m glad to help. If I find out anything, I’ll let you know. Have a good time tonight.”

“I plan too. Hey, maybe you and Andy can come over one night, and we’ll do something.” Michael paused. Shit. He was just a guest. “I guess I need to run that by Clay first so he can ask Sebastian. Forget I said anything until I check with him.”

“It’s technically Clay’s home too, but yeah, Sebastian is the eldest. As head of their family, everything goes through him. He’s met Andy and me, so I don’t think he’d have a problem with us coming onto their property, but let me know. I’ll talk to you later.”

“I will. Talk to you soon.”

Just as he finished tucking in his shirt, there was a brisk knock at his bedroom door. Michael opened it, nerves dancing along his spine. Struck dumb, he hungrily gazed at the vision before him. Clay wore all black again—a clingy, silky-looking black shirt hugged broad shoulders, and form-fitting tight black jeans highlighted muscular legs.

Blushing, Michael glanced up. “Wow. Jesus, you look good.”

Clay’s gaze slid over Michael before meeting his eyes. Clay licked his lips. “You are a vision too.
